President's Message
At
a recent QAAP meeting, an invited guest, Marilynn Vanderstay raised
her hand and she did not have a question, instead she made a statement;
“You are the ‘Raison d’être’ for many
persons to get out of bed!”
Those words made many of us smile, but it is also a big responsibility.
What an incredible compliment. Let me just say that it is time that
we accept the compliments and stand proud. We are a group of professionals
who have chosen to work in a field that has the ability to positively
change many lives. The therapeutic effects of our individual and group
recreation and leisure interventions are not always easily measured.
The positive feedback and results speak for themselves, but we also
continue to work on possible measuring tools. What we do know is that
during all of our programming, the whole person is being considered.
We strive to set up our clients for success. We strive to physically,
mentally and emotionally strengthen our clients with the implementation
of appropriate and desired quality filled activities. We strive to invoke
pleasure, happiness and genuine laughter, because we know that this
is the difference between “living” or just “being
alive”.
I am excited to have embarked in a second two year term as QAAP president.
I believe that this association is a “GOOD” thing! A good
thing can only bring about good results. QAAP is an all inclusive association
because we know that regardless of our educational backgrounds we have
similar goals and strengths. Together we have a stronger voice and a
stronger networking circle. I look forward to continuing to build on
this already solid association. I welcome members to bring forth ideas
and possible future projects and certainly to consider becoming involved
on the executive board of this association.
I would like to thank members for their continued support. Welcome the
new members and invite you all to attend our general meetings and come
out to the annual workshop. I strongly encourage you all to not forget
to make time for your own leisure. You need to remain energized and
in a positive state of mind, body and soul. More importantly, I encourage
you to advocate for what you do so well. Share what you do. Speak about
it. Write about it. Be proud, be assertive and don’t underestimate
your value. Your clients are counting on you!
